Job description

The Role

We are seeking an experienced Farm Machinery Operator to join a broadacre agriculture operation in Lalbert, Victoria. This hands-on role involves operating a windrower to cut and lay crops into consistent windrows, supporting efficient drying and preparation for baling or harvesting. You will work in a practical, fast-paced farming environment using modern agricultural machinery, with a strong focus on safe operation, crop quality and equipment performance.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will be responsible for operating and adjusting windrowing equipment to achieve consistent crop preparation while maintaining safe and efficient machinery operation.

  • Operate windrowers safely and efficiently across broadacre cropping areas
  • Cut crops including lucerne, oats, wheat, canola and other hay or forage crops
  • Lay crops into even windrows to support effective drying and efficient collection
  • Monitor crop conditions, moisture levels and cutting height
  • Adjust cutting height, reel speed, draper or belt speed and windrow formation to suit changing conditions
  • Set up and operate GPS guidance and autosteer systems
  • Monitor machine performance and in-cab controls during operation
  • Complete routine machinery checks and report maintenance or safety concerns
  • Follow workplace health and safety procedures at all times

Your Skills & Experience

To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:

  • Current driver licence required
  • Previous windrower or swather operating experience
  • Experience working with crops such as canola, cereals, pulses, seed crops, hay or forage
  • Confidence operating late-model agricultural machinery
  • Strong understanding of in-cab controls, monitors and machine settings
  • Experience setting up and operating GPS guidance and autosteer systems
  • Ability to adjust cutting height, reel speed, draper or belt speed and windrow formation
  • Previous tractor operating experience
  • Good mechanical awareness and ability to identify basic machinery issues
  • A strong commitment to safe work practices
