The Role
We are seeking an experienced Header Operator to join a busy grain harvest operation in Nullawil, Victoria. Working within the broadacre cropping and grain industry, you will operate modern harvesting equipment across a range of crops including wheat, barley, chickpeas and sorghum. This is a hands-on seasonal role in a fast-paced outdoor environment, with long and flexible hours required during peak harvest periods. You will work closely with farm managers, chaser-bin operators, truck drivers and other harvest staff to keep operations running safely and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
You will be responsible for safely operating header machinery, maintaining harvest efficiency and supporting day-to-day harvest operations. Strong machinery knowledge, attention to grain quality and a proactive approach to maintenance are essential.
- Operate modern headers and harvesting equipment safely and efficiently
- Harvest wheat, barley, chickpeas, sorghum and other grain crops as required
- Set and adjust header settings to suit crop and paddock conditions
- Monitor crop flow, grain quality and grain losses throughout harvesting
- Conduct daily pre-start checks and routine machinery maintenance
- Identify and report mechanical issues promptly
- Keep machinery clean, safe and well maintained
- Work closely with farm managers, chaser-bin operators, truck drivers and harvest team members
- Follow farm safety procedures and environmental requirements
- Maintain accurate records of hours worked, paddocks harvested, fuel use and maintenance
- Assist with general harvest duties as required
- Work long and flexible hours during peak harvest periods
Benefits
- $40.00 per hour
- Approximately 2-3 months of seasonal harvest work
- Approximately 50 hours per week

Your Skills & Experience
- Previous grain harvest experience is essential
- Proven experience operating headers and broadacre harvesting equipment
- Experience operating New Holland machinery with a 61-foot front is highly regarded
- Reliable and available to work varied and extended hours during peak harvest periods
- Physically fit and comfortable working long days in outdoor conditions
- Strong understanding of machinery operation, pre-start checks and basic maintenance
- Able to monitor grain quality, crop flow and harvesting performance
- Good communication skills and ability to work effectively within a harvest team
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and safe machinery operation
